Dyson AirWrap: 6 Month Review
So, as the title indicates, it has been 6 months since my husband gave me the Dyson Airwrap as a gift and I wanted to check-in to let you know how it has been so far. Read on to learn if I still use it, what is the most useful and pros and cons I have discovered.
Do you still use it?
Yes! I got rid of the curling iron with 7 attachments, the blow dryer, hot rollers, flat iron and foam curlers, leaving Dyson the only hot tool I have now. Every time I wash my hair, I have to use the Airwrap. Trust me, I tried not to one night just to make sure my hair texture hadn't magically transformed into silky, smooth waves. Turns out frizz is still my friend and Dyson is somehow keeping it at bay.
So, is your hair fried from all that use?
Nope! Don't ask me how but my hair is smooth, shiny and looks like glass. I didn't even notice until I was taking a video where my little one was arranging my hair in a heart shape pattern on the floor. I realized all the shine and light gleaming was my healthy hair and not a collection of suddenly gray hairs! Even my mom commented on how "shampoo commercial" it looked! I've occasionally used heat protectant but most of the time, I've forgotten so it doesn't seem like it is damaging my hair.
Which attachments do you use?
I love the blow drying attachment. I know Dyson has a blow dryer that is sold separately but I can't imagine anything drying my hair faster. Even when I get my hair cut , my hair isn't dried as fast with the professional's dryer as it is with the Dyson attachment. Honestly, its a little frustrating because it takes like 30 seconds and it seems like I spent all that money for it to be so efficient.
I also use the thicker barrel attachments (1.2"). I love the smooth, bouncy blowout waves I get that look effortless even after a night's rest. The waves hold until the next wash day and no matter how my hair falls, it looks good.
What products do you use with the Airwrap?
I started off using Wow Dreamcoat but once that ran out, my hair still looked the same so I didn't repurchase. I also purchased the long barrel which is a huge timesaver for my shoulder length hair. I use hair clips to section off my hair only because it makes it easier to see what parts still need to be curled. I also use Boldify thickening spray for my roots because I love the look of a voluminous crown.
What don't you like about the Airwrap?
It definitely takes longer than some other hot tools. Hot rollers are set and go, flat iron is pretty fast, especially if you crank up the heat and even a curling iron can give you a decent enough look if you go fast and don't have thick hair. The Airwrap only has so much hair you can add to the barrel and you can't turn up the heat so you are gonna have to sit through the arduous task of wrapping your hair and waiting till its warm enough and then doing the cool shot of air to keep the curl intact. But, as a night shower girl, this is no big deal and I do love that I actually use this more often because I can just set up Netflix and Airwrap before going to bed. It means I have nothing more to do in the morning besides shaking out my hair and applying a little oil to the ends to really seal in that shine. So day showers beware...time is not on your side if you need to rush out the door with the Airwrap.
Would you repurchase?
Yes! A thousand times yes! That boost of self-confidence you get when you walk out the salon with your hair looking swishy and shiny is so easy to recreate with the Airwrap and none of the guilt of frying your hair. I love sleek, smooth hair but a flat iron made me cringe because my hair would literally feel crispy after a couple of passes. I used to spend so much time trying to learn updos that looked decent enough form the back (seriously, how do people do their own hair if you can't see the back of our head??) and had to try to use a mirror or my cell phone to figure out if it was a hot mess in the back. Now, I barely even brush it because I know it's good to go in the morning.
It will be interesting to see how they upgrade future models. If I could, I would ask that they make thicker barrels (the 1.2" looks good overnight but still has ringlets) and parcel brush attachments in hair length so you have attachments you can actually use. I also think the price is a significant barrier so allowing people to purchase the attachments separately and maybe just selling the Airwrap with the dryer would mean you can select what you want to try and spread out the cost a bit.
